  • What will be needed to create stronger local and regional food systems that are less reliant on imports from elsewhere?
  • What are the local and regional consumption and production trends in your local area?
  • The SARE program was commissioned, by Congress, to get its research results to the farmer and rancher. Why has this been a success or failure in your specific subregion?
  • What type of research, education and development projects will be necessary over the next 10 years to help economically sustain farming and the environment?
  • If Western SARE received (from Congress) an additional $1 million per region, what types of projects should be targeted or emphasized?
  • How can we (Western SARE) overcome barriers that may prevent underserved groups, including socially disadvantaged groups, from applying for and receiving SARE funding?

Space is limited, register early! Registration fee includes: two day conference, light breakfast each day, lunch each day, dinner on 1st day (optional), and optional grant writing workshop.

Accomodations at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort: Participants at the WSARE subregional conference can reserve rooms at the special discounted rate of $125/night for three days prior to the conference and five days after. Call the Keauhou Beach Outrigger Resort's toll free number (1-877-532-8468), ask for group reservations, and mention that you're participating in the WSARE CONFERENCE.

To arrange to stay at a Kona area bed and breakfast (many of which are on farms), contact the Hawaii Island B & B Association (North Kona or South Kona).

The Manago Hotel is very reasonably priced, but has a limited number of rooms available.

Farm Tours: For information on self guided driving tours of the Kona region's coffee farms, check out the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival website for brochures and maps. AgriTourism in the Kona region is a growing industry. You can make reservations for unique agricultural tours through Hawaii AgVentures.
