Children's Ice Fishing Derby
at Lake St. George State Park

Lake St. George State Park will host the first Take It Outside event of 2009; a Children's Ice Fishing Derby. Whether you have never been fishing or are an experienced fisherman, this is a great opportunity to share a fun-filled day outside with a child. The Bureau of Parks and Lands will provide everything you need to experience this exciting winter activity including instruction, traps and bait. They'll even cut the hole in the ice for you. In addition to ice fishing and to fill the time between flags, other winter activities will be offered for your enjoyment. A warming hut, coffee and hot cocoa will be available all day. Lunch is provided. Prizes will be awarded for first fish, greatest length, total weight and more. Remember to dress for the weather. Easy Adventures provides a series of activities geared for the 50 plus or minus set. These activities are designed to get you to "Take It Outside" and to discover the joys of being physically active in the beautiful Maine Landscape. All of the events will be fun and adventurous without being in any way extreme.

Cross Country Skiing at Twin Brooks - February 8 (1-3 pm)
Ice Skating at Family Ice - March 21 (starts at 4:50 pm)

Fund Seeks to Reconnect Children with Nature by Ed Morin, MPBN (10/02/2008) The Governor's Conference on Youth and the Natural World brought together both young people and adults to look at such issues as how to help schools connect with nature and building healthy communities. Keynoting the conference was Larry Selzer, President and CEO of The Conservation Fund, an organization which has been at the forefront of a national movement to reconnect children with nature.
