The Sun Grant Initiative is a national research and outreach program of land-grant universities and federally funded laboratories working together to enhance the nation’s renewable energy resources and non-food based industries. There are five regional Sun Grant Centers, the North Central Center serving the region and the national initiative.

Feedstock Logisitics Research Proposals Selected for Funding 

 

The North Central Region Advisory Council met by teleconference to evaluate the Feedstock Logistic Research Proposals and Scientific Reviews.  Eight projects were selected for funding pending DOE approval.  Approximately $2.7 million dollars was awarded to these eight projects, and including cost-share the total dollar amount for the projects is a little over $4 million.  The awardees will be announced at the conclusion of the NC Region Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, January 16, 2009.

Sun Grant Initiative Energy Conference 

   

Save the Date!  The Sun Grant Initiative Energy Conference will be held March 10-13, 2009 at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel, Washington, D.C.   The conference will showcase the latest innovative Sun Grant research from around the Nation, university-industry-government partnerships, renewable energy industries tradeshow, presentations by experts in biomass production, conversion, renewable energy, markets, government policy, and a special open-door educational mini-course “Renewable and Sustainable Energy 101” that will provide a primer on the latest “hot topics” including in depth overviews of the technologies, environmental issues, and biomass resources. 

 

 Poster abstracts are being accepted online through the registration website until January 30, 2009.

Update on Feedstock Logistics RFP Awards 

   

The Feedstock Logistics Proposals submitted to the North Central Region Sun Grant Center are currently undergoing a scientific review.  Upon completion of the scientific review, the NC Region Sun Grant Center Advisory Board will meet and select proposals for funding.  This process should be complete by late December and awards made shortly thereafter.  Formal presentation of awards will be made during the NC Region Sun Grant Center meeting January 15-16, 2009 in Minneapolis.

NC Region Meeting January 2009 

All are invited to attend the North Central Sun Grant Region Annual Meeting January 15-16, 2009 at the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport Hilton. The meeting will start at noon on the 15th and conclude at noon on the 16th. The meeting agenda, registration and lodging information are posted on the hyperlink above.  Please register for the meeting and make your own room reservations by December 26, 2008.  The meeting will include updates on regional research projects, National Sun Grant, the NC Bioeconomy Consortium, Feedstock partnership -- GIS datatbase and eXtension.
