Memphis and Shelby County Health Department
Mission and Duties:
Pollution Control is directed to maintain the purity of the air resources of Shelby County in order to protection of normal health, general welfare, and physical property of the people while preserving maximum employment and enhancing the industrial development of the County. The Section establishes air emission standards and requirements to monitor air pollution sources through the issuance of construction and operating permits. Other duties include conducting source visits and compliance inspections, developing enforcement cases on violations of the regulations, monitoring local ambient air quality, performing and observing stack tests, and collecting and disseminating information relative to the control of air pollution. It also permits and inspects monitoring, water production, and residential wells and deep soil borings.
