Finance Assistant Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy

IATP seeks a full-time Finance Assistant to work with the Vice President for Finance and Operations to manage accounts receivable, accounts payable and budgets. This position will report to the Vice President for Finance and Operations and will work closely with the administration team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review all accounts payable requests including but not limited to employee expense reports, contract payments, monthly routine payments, etc.
  • Create invoices for travel reimbursement, honoraria, rent, grant receivables, etc.
  • Review staff credit card statements ensuring proper documentation for all charges
  • Assist VP for Finance with annual audit preparation
  • Work with the development team on grant and contract reporting and invoicing
  • Work with Administrative team to manage all of the administrative support needs of IATP
  • Maintain grant, receipt, contract and additional finance related files

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Highly organized and extreme attention to detail a must
  • Must be a team player and exhibit strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks and Excel required
  • Experience in finance and a non-profit a plus
  • Ability to learn new skills, work independently and take initiative while meeting agreed upon goals and deadlines

Senior Program Associate, Rural Communities Program

IATP seeks a full-time senior program associate to work on a variety of rural economic development issues, particularly as they relate to the development and promotion of sustainable bioeconomy policies and markets. The bioeconomy includes the emerging bioenergy, biofuel and biomaterials sector, and this position will have a specific focus on policy and market mechanisms that promote sustainable agricultural and forest-based biomass "feedstock" production. This position will report to the Director of the Rural Communities Program, and will require strong analytical, research, writing and interpersonal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing and advocating for policies and markets that support a sustainable bioeconomy
  • Preparing and writing bioeconomy-related articles, reports, and proposals
  • Preparing and giving presentations
  • Conducting bioeconomy related research and analysis,
  • Supervising staff and interns as needed
  • Providing timely written reports on activities and projects

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree or equivalent graduate work preferred
  • Deep experience in/knowledge of bioeconomy (including bioenergy, biofuel, and biomaterials/bioplastics) from a sustainable agriculture perspective
  • Understanding of and support for IATP's perspective on farm, food and trade policies
  • Recent experience with energy, agricultural, and/or environmental policy development
  • Excellent communication, writing, analytical and project management skills
  • Strong computer skills, including GIS and web preferred
  • Ability to learn new skills, work independently and take initiative while meeting agreed upon goals and deadlines
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel
  • Team player required - good interpersonal skills and sense of humor a must.

INTERNSHIPS

Internship, Center for Earth, Energy and Democracy at IATP

The intern will work for the Center for Earth, Energy and Democracy (CEED) at IATP. CEED's mission is to conduct policy research, analysis and advocacy on the intersection of energy, environment and community development issues, focusing on the distributional effects of policies on Indigenous peoples, communities of color and the poor. This position will report to the Director of the Rural Communities Program, and will require strong analytical, research, writing and interpersonal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    The project will address issues of environmental justice in the region. In partnership with local community-based organizations, the student will contribute to the development of community- based green development planning. Interns will assist in research and analysis for neighborhood organizations in the following areas:

  • Development of public education materials
  • Neighborhood level greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies
  • GIS mapping of environmental hazards and risks
  • Environmental health assessments
  • Organizing marginalized communities to engage city and state policy

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate student with background in environmental policy, environmental health or urban planning with an environmental focus
  • Highly disciplined and willing to assist with community organizing activities
  • Understanding of GIS helpful, but not necessary
  • Interest in environmental justice preferable
  • Background working with Native and/or communities of color highly recommended

We are looking for a student who can commit 10 hours per week to this project.
