Welcome

Warm Springs Extension Service

In its 50th year, the partnership between the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and Oregon State University provides education in Agriculture/Natural Resources, Home Economics/Nutrition, and youth development to community members, families, and tribal departments on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. Located in the Education Building in the community of Warm Springs, the OSU Extension Office is currently the only post-secondary education institution to be housed within the reservation.

A formal Memorandum of Understanding between the university and the tribal government provides for funding, office space, and shared expertise.

Warm Springs OSU Extension education programs are "non-formal," meaning that they don't involve formal classes with grades and tests; the learning is done through one-on-one visits, clinics, newsletters and other publications, and hands-on workshops.  Three faculty members and five program assistants conduct programs such as horse vaccination clinics, cooking classes, traditional root digging field trips for youth, and summer culture camps.  Most of our programs are done in partnership with one or more tribal organizations such as the Early Childhood Education Center, Warm Springs Elementary School, and the Range and Agriculture Department.
