Israel has officially joined the OECD Working Group on Bribery, an important step in its accession to OECD membership. OECD has also launched a partnership with the African Development Bank (AFDB) to support the efforts of African governments and business to fight bribery and corruption and boost corporate integrity.

The economic impact of climate change, rising food prices and a broad range of other trade, growth and development issues were discussed at the OECD’s annual ministerial meeting in Paris on 4-5 June 2008. Ministers from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and South Africa have been invited to attend the ministerial meeting, as have ministers from Chile, Estonia, Israel, Russia and Slovenia, the five candidate countries for accession to OECD.

OECD countries have given a green light for the start of accession talks with five prospective new members, notably Israel, signalling a new stage in the Organisation's drive to broaden and deepen its involvement with emerging new players in the global economy.

Three new countries have joined the Organisation’s Development Centre. Egypt, Israel and Vietnam officially took their seats at the Centre’s Governing Board meeting on 18 March 2008. This represents a significant extension of the Development Centre’s membership in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Earlier in February, Poland rejoined the Centre, whose members now total 32.
