by The Oregonian

You'll want to take it easy as you head out this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory for the Portland area, which is sure to slow down your morning drive. After 10 a.m., we're looking at blue skies and springlike temperatures that will top out around 50 degrees.

PACIFIC, Wash. -- Residents of this small town between Tacoma and Seattle have given an earful to the Army Corps of Engineers over flooding last week, saying they were not notified before water was released from Mud Mountain Dam, which was built to prevent flooding in the area.

Wednesday gets off to foggy start but sunshine is on the way

by The Oregonian
Wednesday January 14, 2009, 4:52 AM

It'll be sunny today, but first we'll have to slog through some morning fog. Wednesday starts out cloudy but things are expected to clear up by afternoon. Temperatures will top out around 50 - not bad for a day smack dab in deep winter.

We've got more of the same Thursday and Friday. Expect the mild temperatures to extend into the weekend.

TriMet ridership grew 4.5 percent in December

by Dylan Rivera, The Oregonian
Tuesday January 13, 2009, 5:01 PM

TriMet ridership continued to climb in December, after a year of high mass-transit use and during a month when motorists turned to buses and trains to get around in two weeks of snowstorms.

The overall weekly average of bus and MAX light rail trips rose 4.5 percent compared with December 2007, averaging 1.86 million trips, the agency said this week. The weekday-only bus and MAX average rose 4.8 percent to 305,900.

by Scott Learn, The Oregonian
Tuesday January 13, 2009, 1:09 PM

Unusually stagnant air and mounting pollution prompted Oregon environmental regulators to issue an air quality alert today through Sunday for much of Central and Eastern Oregon.

The alert covers communities running from Klamath Falls to Bend to Pendleton to The Dalles.

Cloudy but dry Tuesday in store; sun set to shine Thursday

by The Oregonian
Tuesday January 13, 2009, 4:54 AM

So the National Weather Service said it'd be sunny on Monday. It wasn't. And now it looks like their sunshine-all-week predictions aren't quite right, either. Today's forecast is shaping up to be foggy in the morning, followed by clouds the rest of the day.

Ditto Wednesday. But Thursday? Well, that sunshine we mentioned on Monday makes an appearance and sticks around through Saturday.

Morning commute: Traffic frozen on foggy I-5 north; the Sunset still jammed up

by Joseph Rose, The Oregonian
Monday January 12, 2009, 7:05 AM

Fog continues to envelope local freeways, causing later-than-usual traffic james.

Interstate 5 northbound is a mess near Tualatin, with stop and go traffic and delays reaching 15 minutes or more.

Earlier updates:

If you're headed to Portland from Vancouver, consider taking Interstate 205. A stalled vehicle on the Interstate Bridge has been cleared, but it's still molasses. It's about 22 minutes from Vancouver to downtown on I-5. The Glenn Jackson Bridge isn't as busy.
