Study finds overwhelming incidence of misleading health claims on kids’ food

A recent study by the University of Calgary, Canada, found that although most food products targeted at kids made claims to health benefits, the vast majority of these were unhealthy and non-nutritious, often failing to meet the Center for Science in the Public Interest’s nutritional guidelines due to excessive sugar content. “Certain nutritional claims may add to the confusion, as they can mislead people into thinking the whole product is nutritious,” cautions researcher Charlene Elliott.
