Marriage/Domestic Partner

Within 31 days of the day you are married or establish a domestic partnership, you must take the following steps:

Step 1 Fill out Form 1751a (pdf) to add your new spouse to your eligible benefit plans (see below).
Step 2 If you are married to another LANS employee, review your insurance plans with the Benefits Office to ensure there are no duplicate coverages. Call 505-667-1806 or email benefits@lanl.gov.
Step 3 Proof required: please be prepared to provide a copy of your Marriage Certificate when enrolling.  Your enrollment will not be processed without acceptable proof of the event.
Step 4 Other reminders:

Benefit Plans Eligible for Change due to Marriage

Medical, Dental, and Vision You may enroll in coverage, add your new dependent(s) to existing coverage, or change your current option (e.g. from EPO to PPO). You may also drop existing coverages, if you are joining your new spouse's benefit plan.
Flexible Spending Accounts (HCRA and DCRA) You may enroll in coverage or increase your current election. You may cancel or decrease your current election if your spouse is already enrolled in the same FSA plan through LANS or another employer.
Group Legal You may add your new dependent(s) to existing coverage. You may cancel Group Legal at any time.
Disability You may apply for a change in your existing coverage at any time, subject to approval of a Statement of Health by Liberty Mutual.
Life and Dependent Life You may enroll in coverage or increase your current benefit. Any Dependent Life enrollment for a spouse or domestic partner requires a Statement of Health for coverage over $50,000. Dependent children are exempt from the Statement of Health requirement.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment You may enroll, change or cancel this benefit at any time. No Statement of Health is required.
