Legal insurance offers basic, personal coverage for preventive, domestic, consumer, and defensive legal services. The ARAG Group, an industry leader in the delivery of legal services, provides these services.

Legal insurance is offered to those employees who qualify for Full benefits. You may enroll yourself and any eligible dependents during your period of initial eligibility (PIE), which starts the day you become eligible and ends approximately 31 days later. Eligible dependents include your legal spouse or domestic partner, unmarried natural or adopted child, stepchild, domestic partner's child/grandchild, or legal guardian
If you have a family status change (e.g., marriage or birth of a child) and are currently enrolled in this legal assistance plan, you may enroll your new dependents during your PIE, which would start on the date of the qualifying event (e.g., date of marriage or date of child's birth).
If you are not enrolled in this legal assistance plan and marry another LANL employee who is enrolled in the plan, your new spouse may enroll you as a dependent in his/her plan.
Note: Any legal work already in progress will not be covered by Legal insurance when you first enroll in the plan.
Legal insurance provides unlimited access to this toll-free telephone hotline:1-800-247-4184. To learn about your available benefits, you will be instructed to enter your 12-digit identification (ID) number. (Your ID number was mailed to you in January. If you do not know that number or would like to speak with an ARAG customer service representative, push # on your telephone keypad.) You can also talk to an attorney at this number 24 hours a day, seven days a week. (Regular service hours are 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.)
You may select an attorney from the plan's list of participating attorneys or choose your own. Using an attorney participating in the plan is not required but highly encouraged, as it will maximize your benefits. Certain restrictions apply to nonnetwork reimbursement.
