MLRA Region 3 Office provides assistance to soil survey project offices located in parts of Nevada,  California, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah.


Responsibility

The primary responsibility of the MLRA Region 3 Office is to  provide quality assurance of soil information in the Northern Basin and Range Major Land Resource Area using the National Cooperative Soil Survey standards

Definition

Major Land Resource Areas/MLRA's are geographically associated land resource units, usually encompassing several thousand acres.  They are characterized by particular patterns of soils, geology, climate, water resources, and land use.  A unit may be one continuous area or several separate nearby areas.

The Northern Basin and Range, MLRA Region 3 Office, in Reno, Nevada, is one of MLRA regional offices serving the United States and the Caribbean area. This office provides assistance to soil survey project offices located in portions of California, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah.
