Missouri Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) was reauthorized in the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (Farm Bill) to provide a voluntary conservation program for farmers and ranchers that promotes agricultural production and environmental quality as compatible national goals. Through EQIP, eligible participants may receive financial and technical assistance on agricultural land to implement structural and management conservation practices.

With the passage of the “Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008”, a new Farm Bill was established.  USDA is currently working on establishing the necessary Program rules to provide assistance to producers, as is written in this new Farm Bill.  States can not conduct some Program signup activities (application ranking, scoring, contract funds obligation, etc) until the EQIP rule is available, however, EQIP applications are accepted year round.  Missouri NRCS EQIP applications submitted beginning Monday, July 21st through close of business Friday, January 16, 2009 will be considered for the next available funding in FY09.  Some FY09 Missouri EQIP information will remain in a Draft format (e.g., FY09 EQIP Program Policy and Financial Assistance), and certain activities (application ranking and scoring) must wait, until the EQIP rule is made available.  At that time, and after input from Missouri’s State Technical Committee, Missouri’s FY09 EQIP signup information will be updated accordingly.

How to Apply for EQIP

EQIP applications are accepted year round.  Interested parties may apply for EQIP at their local NRCS office located in the USDA Service Center. Your local USDA Service Center agencies are also listed in the telephone book under United States Government, Department of Agriculture.

To apply for EQIP, applicants must submit:

  • A signed Conservation Program Application, Form NRCS-CPA-1200 with appendix AND
  • A signed FY2009 EQIP Screening Tool Worksheet, for all conservation practices seeking FY09 EQIP financial assistance.

For specific details about current EQIP opportunities, including the conservation practices available for financial assistance, see "Current EQIP Sign-up Information" below.  NRCS personnel will assist each applicant to complete their application.
