Guidelines for Submitting Articles and Reviews

We welcome articles, short announcements or alerts, calendar inputs, and reviews of products and services. Topics should be timely and of interest to readers. Please contact the editor for guidance (see reverse). Articles are reviewed for technical accuracy. The editor reserves the right to modify information in any way deemed necessary.

Length

Short announcements or alerts should not exceed 200-300 words.
Reviews should not exceed 300-500 words.
Articles of 500-1500 words are preferred; longer may be fine, please check with the editor.

Artwork and Photos

Articles must include high-quality graphics (art and/or photos). Film or digital media are accepted. Generally, line art (black & white, no gray/continuous tone) is preferred over art that must be reproduced as a halftone.

FILM IMAGES: Whenever possible, photos for use in the article should be submitted as high contrast, black & white prints. Medium or large-format transparencies or high-quality color prints are preferred for the cover. We will accept 35 mm slides. Do not send negatives.

DIGITAL IMAGES: Keep in mind that digital images to be used in print publications such as The Palmetto require at least 5-7 MB of information to be reproduced successfully at approximately 3 x 5 inches. Such files are too large to be transmitted by email. Please send a low-resolution (72 ppi) image via email for previewing on- screen OR submit high-resolution images on a CD ROM or DVD. DO NOT EMAIL HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGE FILES.

All non-digital photos and artwork will be handled with care and returned to the author.

Text

Please send articles as text file attachments to email whenever possible. Text may be attached as a Word document or included directly in the body of an e-mail message. If email is not practical, please send file on CD ROM or DVD.

Do not format text; all text is reset.
