The Florida Native Plant Society considers conservation of our native ecosystems to be paramount to the preservation of our native flora. We support initiatives to purchase and preserve native plant communities. We support programs that maintain and enhance both the biotic and abiotic environment on which these native plant communities depend.

Save Native Plant Communities and Species! Join the FNPS Conservation Committee!   

 

The FNPS Conservation Committee is a motivated, dynamic group that achieves applied conservation goals aligned with the FNPS mission statement. 

We need motivated members to serve as Regional Conservation Representatives.   We need Chapter Conservation Representatives acoss the state to act locally, and Conservation Committee Members. 

Regional Conservation Representatives - we need a maximum of one per region (southeast, southwest, central, north, and panhandls Florida.  To date  the SE, SW, and  Panhandle L positions are filled.  Regional Reps keep in monthly contact with the Conservation Co-Chairs about regional plant conservation issues.  They dissemenate local issues upward to the state level for Society action and down from the Society-wide to the local level.  The submit a Note consisting of a few paragraphs, once/per quarter to be published in the Society Journal, the Palmetto, read by the entire membership. 

Chapter Conservation Representatives - we need a maximum of two per FNPS chapter.   Chapter Reps are networked within the plant conservation pulse within their Chapter's terrirory and are esponsible for communicating local conservation issues to the Society and informing the local chapter of state-wide plant conservation issues and reporting quarterly to the  Regional Reps.    Please ask your Chapter President if you can serve in this role and/or contact the FNPS Conservation Co-chairs or Executive Director. 

Conservation Committee Members - we need as many people who want to be involved.  Conservation Committee members have less responsibility than Chapter and Regional Reps, but play a major role in reviewing the Annual Conservation Award Applications and voting and providing comments on other Conservation Committee issues prior to submitting recommendations to the FNPS Board of Directors.   Please show this to your Chapter President and sign up by contacting the FNPS Conservation Co-chairs or the Executive Director.

  • Natural Areas Training Academy In Florida there is a great need for natural areas managers. To meet the demand for trained personnel, the Certificate in Natural Areas Management Program has been developed by a partnership of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the world's leading private, non-profit conservation organization, the School of Natural Resources and Environment, and IFAS Extension. The Natural Areas Training Academy is managed by The Nature Conservancy at the University of Florida.
