Future Research Directions in Paleontology
The Deep Time Earth-Life Observatory Network (DETELON) is designed as a program to address integrative problems of Earth history in a coordinated fashion to provide better tools towards predicting the behavior of the Earth-Life system. The concept of a DETELON emerged from and NSF funded community workshop in response to the need to address key issues of societal importance caused by fundamental environmental change. Conservation Paleobiology
Conservation Paleobiology: Opportunities for the Earth Sciences
Humans are now a major force in altering the Earth and its biota—we live in the Anthropocene. Current challenges include finding ways to mitigate human impacts on biodiversity, and developing means to sustain and restore the ecosystem services on which we depend. Conservation Paleobiology, the application of geohistorical records to the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystem services, can lead this effort.
North American Paleontological Convention 2014
The 10th North American Paleontological Convention will be held in Gainesville, Florida in February 2014. The meeting will be hosted by the Florida Museum of Natural History (University of Florida) from February 15th through 18th (Saturday through Tuesday).
Pre-conference and post-conference field trips are tentatively planned for February 13th-14th and 19th-20th respectively.
A more detailed 1st circular, including a formal solicitation for symposium/theme session proposals, student support information, important deadlines and a preliminary website will be coming soon!
