Bureau of WaterAbout the BureauWater pollution control and public water supply programs are consolidated in the IEPA's Bureau of Water. These water programs have been integrated to address the major goals of the federal Clean Water Act, the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, and state regulations that address water pollution and water supply issues.
The Division of Water Pollution Control works to protect and enhance the quality of the more than 87,000 miles of rivers and streams and more than 250,000 surface acres of inland lakes in Illinois. The Division of Public Water Supplies works in partnership with Illinois community water supplies to achieve the common goals of ensuring reliable delivery of safe drinking water to all users and protecting the state's drinking water resources from contamination.
