Members of the National Board for Education Sciences

On September 10, 2008, Eric Hanushek was elected chairman for a term of two years of the National Board for Education Sciences, the presidentially appointed board of directors of the Institute of Education Sciences in the U.S. Department of Education. Hanushek also serves as the chairman of the Executive Committee for the Texas Schools Project at the University of Texas at Dallas and is the Paul and Jean Hanna Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, Stanford, California.

Eric Hanushek succeeds Robert Granger, president of the New York City-based William T. Grant Foundation.

Jon Baron, executive director of the Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy, Washington, DC, was elected vice chairman of the Board, which is made up of prominent researchers, school administrators and business executives. All were nominated by President Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

  • Sally E. Shaywitz, MD, Director at Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity, Yale Center for the Study of Learning, Reading and Attention at the Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.
