NJ DISASTER RESERVIST PROGRAM (NJDRP)
JOIN NJDRP: Help Families and Businesses Recover From Disaster

The New Jersey Disaster Reservist Program (NJDRP) , a cadre of specialists created and organized by NJOEM, exists to help families and businesses during the recovery process.

In times of need, NJDRP Reservists will:

  • Act as the State of New Jersey ’s representative to property owners affected by a major disaster
  • Help families and business owners negotiate the process of applying for Federal assistance
  • Take complicated, technical information and make it accessible to citizens in need
  • Keep an ongoing database of disaster-related activities
  • Leap into action with the Federal declaration of an emergency
  • Serve in the field during response and recovery operations.

The Disaster Reservists will be assigned to the North, Central or South regions of New Jersey. This program is geared toward personnel who are currently retired or about to retire from EMS related fields, and who would be considered "on-call" specialists".

The Reservist are essentially those personnel who could afford to be deployed throughout the State in the event of a Presidential declared disaster; for a time period that could last as long as six months or longer. It is a full time commitment and would require as many as 40 hours weekly depending on the size of the event.

During a declared emergency Colonel Rick Fuentes, as Director of the State Office of Emergency Management, will deploy Reservists to work with the Governor’s Authorized Representative and the State Coordinating Officer. When activated, Disaster Reservists would be compensated at the rate of $25 per hour.

NJDRP currently seeks to recruit new members. The program is in need of individuals with experience in engineering, finance and emergency management. The program is also in need of individuals with administrative and communications skills.
