Extension
When the people speak, Extension listens. It's been that way since the Smith-Lever Act established the Cooperative Extension Service as the educational branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture over 80 years ago.
The mission of the Agricultural Economics Extension Program is to provide leadership for developing, delivering, and evaluating current and relevant agricultural economics and resource development educational programs for decision makers. Our vision is for Tennesseans to improve their knowledge, understanding, and application of economics to agricultural and rural issues.
Extension assists people to:
- Identify their needs, problems and opportunities
- Evaluate their resources
- Become familiar with specific methods of overcoming their problems
- Analyze alternative solutions to their problems
- Decide on the most promising course of action based on their own desires, resources and abilities
- Take Action!
Programs are constantly evaluated, revised and updated to provide the latest research information to help people.
