The PGEC is a joint USDA ARS-UC Berkeley facility located approximately two miles from the UC Berkeley campus. The incumbent will clone maize genes related to two Arabidopsis BOP genes that promote leaf cell fate during organ formation. The incumbent will also characterize bop mutant maize plants by analyzing leaf morphology and spectroscopic constituent composition to quantitate effects on vegetative biomass. Analytic methods will include RT-PCR and in situ hybridization, scanning electron microscopy, and mass spectroscopy.
