DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  The position is located with the Cotton Chemistry and Utilization Research Unit at the Southern Regional Research Center in New Orleans, LA.  The incumbent will conduct research to develop flame resistant (FR) greige cotton barrier nonwovens for use in the manufacture of fire resistant mattresses and upholstered furniture, using environmentally safe FR chemicals for cotton fibers and cotton blends.   

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in textile, fiber or polymer chemistry; or mechanical, chemical, fiber/polymer or materials engineering, or a closely related field is required.  Knowledge and experience with cotton textile processes and products are preferred.
