Air Quality Programs
Air Quality in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program
Air quality resource concerns are being addressed through the Environmental
Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
- In 2005, $444 million was spent on EQIP
of which $31 million was air quality related. Examples of EQIP projects
are irrigation pump engine replacements in California, animal waste lagoon
covers, and PM10 reductions off fields, roads, etc.
- In 2006, 66
Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) were funded, where 7 had an air quality
focus ($3.28 million). Examples are: 1) a project with Colorado State
University to demonstrate odor and ammonia reductions on feedlots and dairies,
and 2) a project with the Washington Wheat Growers demonstrating an undercutter
to reduce dust emissions in a wheat/fallow region of the Pacific Northwest.
