A small unnamed basaltic tephra cone on the edge of the Usangu escarpment, overlooking the Usangu basin north of the Poroto Mountains, was considered by Ebinger et al. (1989) to be of probable Holocene age based on lack of vegetative cover. A lava flow traveled westward away from the rift valley along the back-tilted flank of the rift.
