Corps of Engineers to host information meeting on dredging

Portland, Ore. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an information-sharing meeting to discuss this summer’s dredging activities at the mouth of the Columbia River (MCR).

The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, in Astoria, Ore.,

in the Columbia River Bar Pilots conference room, 100 16th Street, next to the maritime museum.

During the meeting, Corps personnel will discuss this season’s maintenance dredging and disposal at the Mouth of the Columbia River. Work is expected to begin on June 1 and continue through mid-October.

The Corps of Engineers has been responsible for maintaining a safe, reliable navigation channel across the Columbia River bar since the late 19th century. The Corps has accomplished this through a combination of dredging and the construction of three rubble mound jetties.
