Portland, Ore. – Starting Nov. 4, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily close one fishing area at Bonneville Dam while engineers stabilize the bank.
The closure, which affects only the north shore of Robins Island, is necessary to insure public safety during the construction. Work is scheduled to begin Thursday, Nov. 4, and continue through Jan. 1, 2000.
"There is a normal amount of erosion that occurs along this back," said Bonneville Operations Manager Debby Chenoweth. "The high flows of ‘96/’97 caused additional problems in this area and we want to stabilize it both for the public’s safety and to protect our facilities."
The closure only affects fishing on Robins Island. The Robins Island group picnic shelter and all other associated facilities will remain open during construction. Fishing access will remain available at Tanner Creek and Bradford Island recreation areas, which are open daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
