Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from the Oregon State Department of Transportation (ODOT) for construction along nine miles of ORS Highway 26 near Austin Junction, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The work would consist of roadway construction to improve substandard road conditions from mile point 190.6 through 199.3 in Grant County. Nine streams that drain into the Middle Fork John Day River would be affected by this project. The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area.
For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice, which describes the proposed project in detail, please call Mary Headley at (503) 808-4392, or access the notice on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/200000197.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.
