Corps seeks input on Tillamook County museum project

Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum Foundation in Bay City, Ore., to fill about one-half acre of wetlands to construct a new museum complex. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.

The development would include a main museum building, some support and storage buildings and parking areas. Plans call for construction of a system of paths on pilings over the wetlands at the site. The project would be located west of the intersection of Highway 101 and Alderbrook Road in Bay City, Tillamook County, Ore.

The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water, Endangered Species and Coastal Zone Management acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area.

For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice, which describes the proposed project in detail, please call Teena Monical at (503) 808-4384, or access the notice on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/199901524.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.

Written comments must reach the Corps by March 29, 2000, and should be mailed to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Attn: CENWP-OP-GP (Teena Monical), P.O. Box 2946, Portland, OR 97208-2946, or e-mail them to teena.g.monical@usace.army.mil.

The Corps also is soliciting comments from federal, state and local agencies and officials, Native American tribes, and other interested parties.
