Gear up for Marriage Week - February 7-14

The purpose of Marriage Week USA is to celebrate the importance of marriage in our communities. Individuals, couples, or organizations are invited to celebrate Marriage Week USA.

 The most important thing is the success of the marriage and not the wedding day. That day comes and goes, but you're with that person the rest of your life. What are you doing to make that relationship successful?

Despite the jokes about forgetting your anniversary, most couples remember this important day and try to make it meaningful. If a marriage was worth celebrating originally, then it ought to be worth re-celebrating. Good marriages get better with time, so each year should be a celebration of making something that was good and meaningful into something that is even better. Wedding anniversaries are worth putting some time and effort into making them days to remember.

Finally, preliminary research shows that marriage education workshops can make a real difference in helping married couples stay together and in encouraging unmarried couples who are living together to form a more lasting bond. Expanding access to such services to low income couples, perhaps in concert with job training and placement, medical coverage, and other services already available, should be something everybody can agree on.
