HASS Hour begins the new year at Utah State University with a look at international study and performance opportunities and features a theatre arts faculty member and two students in “USU in UK Too! All the World’s Our Stage.” HASS Hour is held the third Thursday of every month, and 2009’s opening event is Jan. 15.

HASS Hour is an hour of good food, good company and intellectual engagement sponsored by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at USU. The series puts a faculty member or administrator in the spotlight to share insights, research or creative activity in what is known as a “TimePiece.” Students are also included, sharing insights into working with faculty mentors.

 

January’s featured speaker is Lynda Linford, associate professor in USU’s Department of Theatre Arts. She is joined by student guests Felicia Stehmeier and Jeff Denison. The discussion highlights study in the English countryside with a USU program Linford has led for several years. College of HASS Dean Yolanda Flores Niemann invites everyone to the HASS Hour.

 

“Continuing the education and development of all of our constituents is at the heart of our university mission,” she said. “I am proud of how HASS Hour presents a great opportunity to engage in this mission outside the traditional classroom.”

 

HASS Hour activities are held at the Logan Golf and Country Club (710 N. 1500 East, Logan). Speakers are featured in a 10-minute “TimePiece.”

 

HASS Hour begins with a social gathering at 5:15 p.m., and the TimePiece begins at approximately 6 p.m. Food is served during the social hour. Admission is $12 for individuals and $20 for couples.
