Office of the Chief Veterinarian

The Office of the Chief Veterinarian safeguards the health of animals and humans by addressing animal health and welfare issues that could have an impact on humans through the contamination of food and ensures the safety and security of the food supply. Food safety programs developed by the CVO/Food Safety Knowledge Centre promote both on-farm and post-farm food safety standards and practices. The Chief Veterinarian, in collaboration with other government departments, is responsible for the planning, prevention, and detection of animal and food safety emergencies.
