The WVU-ES Hay site is our effort to help farmers participate in electronic commerce. One challenge in commerce,
especially e-commerce, is fraud.
Producers, be careful when selling (or buying) hay or any commodity. Especially
during drought periods, there will be many people buying and selling hay. At the same time there will be
people
trying to make a dishonest buck off other people.
Be carefully skeptical if a person tries to pressure you into a sale
or purchase, gives a post dated check, or a check
for the wrong amount and wants a refund.
Those selling hay need
to be sure that checks or money orders received to pay for hay are legitimate. Take money
orders to the post office
for verification. Require certified checks that you verify with your bank before delivering hay.
Never give your bank
account number to people that you are dealing with. Requiring cash payment from strangers
taking delivery of hay is still
a good custom.
Fortunately most people dealing in agriculture are honest. However, it only takes one bad person to cause
harm to
others who fall into their trap. We need to be honest, friendly, and careful in our business dealings with others.
We are posting this list of people in the northeast region of the United States who have a supply of hay available for sale. To the best of our knowledge, this list is accurate as of the day of posting. We will try to keep it current, but will not be responsible for inaccuracies or depletion of supply. This list is not all-inclusive and is not intended as an endorsement of these sellers or dealers. To have your hay supply included on or removed from this list, e-mail your request to Dixie Martinelli. Your listing will be deleted at the end of winter or earlier at your request. Please notify the seller if wanting to make a purchase. |
