Wellness screenings and other offerings

Wellness screenings

As part of their Purdue benefits, benefit-eligible faculty and staff and their spouses/same-sex domestic partners may receive one free wellness screening per calendar year. Graduate staff screenings are free; graduate staff spouses/same-sex domestic partners pay $20.

Wellness screenings on the West Lafayette campus are provided this fall by the School of Nursing and include blood pressure, height, weight, and the finger stick procedure for total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol (good), and glucose (blood sugar).

Fasting is not required but is preferred. These tests and procedures are recommended for most adults. If an individual has an existing medical condition, or is already on medication for any medical condition including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or others, it would be more appropriate to see your health care provider for a screening. Participants must bring their PUID at the time of the screening. Spouses/same-sex domestic partners will need the employee/retiree/graduate staff PUID. Register online for a screening appointment at least 24 hours in advance. If you don’t have Internet access, call 49-45461.

Nursing Center for Family Health

The School of Nursing’s Nursing Center for Family Health, located in Johnson Hall B-5, offers a variety of additional screenings/procedures at a cost to the participant, including LDL cholesterol, triglycerides or a fasting lipid panel, complete physical exams, and pap smear testing.  For more information, go to the School of Nursing Web site and click on Nursing Center for Family Health brochure.

Speech and hearing screenings

The M.D. Steer Audiology and Speech-Language clinics at Purdue University offer free speech, language, voice, and hearing screenings. Clinical instructors and graduate students conduct the 15-minute screening. To register, call 49-44229. Walk-ins will be accepted based on availability.
