SYMPTOMS

On Windows vista while attempting to install Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (JRE) or running certain applets or applications, error message is thrown
Error : Exception_Access_Violation.

CAUSE

We are still investigating root cause of this issue.

SOLUTION

Workaround for this issue is to disable the User Account Control (UAC) feature for your account in Windows Vista.

UAC is enabled by default in Windows Vista, as a result, you might encounter some compatibility problems with different applications that have not yet been updated for the Windows Vista UAC component.

Note: Turning off UAC reduces the security of your system. We do not recommnend leaving UAC disabled.

There are different ways to turn off UAC. One of the easiest way is to disable UAC via Control Panel

  1. Click Start and then open Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety.
  3. Click User Accounts.
  4. Click Turn User Account Control on or off.

  1. Clear the tick or check mark on the box beside the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer option.

  1. Click OK.
  2. When prompted, restart the computer. Note that the changes will affect all users on the computer.
  3. To enable the UAC, simply tick or select the checkbox again.
