Thursday January 15, 2009
Australian movie actor Guy Pearce heads a distinguished ensemble cast in Melbourne Theatre Company's inaugural production at its new Melbourne performing arts complex.

A co-production with Sydney Theatre Company, a play with songs, Poor Boy by Matt Cameron and Tim Finn, is the inaugural production at the new Sumner Theatre with previews starting January 21.

Written by Australian playwright Matt Cameron with music by New Zealand-born singer/songwriter Tim Finn and inspired by an original idea by Tim Finn, Poor Boy tells the story of a little boy who on his seventh birthday suddenly announces that he is really a grown man called Danny, who died some years before. The play is described as a supernatural story steeped in loss, anguish and redemption.

Movie actor Guy Pearce turns to the stage in this Australian production, heading an ensemble cast of some of Australia's best-known stage actors.
