Smart, Green & Growing Tip of the Week:
Runny noses and sore throats signal that cold and flu season has arrived. To reduce waste, use a soft,
washable handkerchief or recycled content tissues instead of traditional varieties. Also, never
flush excess medications down the drain.

Prevent the Spread of the Emerald Ash Borer
A quarantine in Prince George’s and Charles counties prohibits the movement of all hardwood firewood and ash
wood materials out of the counties. The restriction is to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer,
an invasive species that kills ash trees and was shipped illegally to the county on infested nursery
stock in 2003.

Explorers Club News
This month the DNR Explorers Club features a hands-on activity for kids, “Where does the dirt go after
a storm?” When people think of pollution, they often think of chemicals. In reality, one of the Bay’s
biggest pollution problems is dirt. Dirt is washed into the Bay during a process known as erosion.
The Explorers Club features a different activity each month. Join us online!
