The Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM)

MVUM logo

The Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) is a requirement of the Travel Management Final Rule, http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/programs/ohv/, and reflects travel management decisions on each forest. The MVUM displays National Forest System (NFS) routes (roads and trails) or areas designated and managed for motorized travel.

The MVUM also displays allowed uses by vehicle class (highway-legal vehicles less than 50 inches wide and motorcycles), seasonal allowances, and provides information on other travel rules and regulations. Routes not shown on the MVUM are not open to public motor vehicle travel. Routes designated for motorized use may not always be signed on the ground, but will be identified on the MVUM. It will be the public's responsibility to reference the MUVM to determine designated routes for motor vehicle use. The MVUM will be updated annually to correct mapping errors or discrepancies and update travel management decisions.

The MVUM is legal documentation displaying routes open to public motor vehicle use. If a road or trail does not appear on the map it means that it is not open to public vehicular use.

The MVUM is black and white with no topographic features and little detail. It is not a stand alone map and is best used in conjunction with the LBL Public Access or other topographic map. The MVUM is available on the website, www.lbl.org or at Golden Pond Visitor Center, North and South Welcome Stations, and LBL Administrative Office.

Respect the Resource to preserve the recreational opportunities for generations to come. Please stay on the trail!
