Description: The hypermedia system, ForestEM, was developed in HyperWriter for use in Microsoft Windows. ForestEM version 1.0 includes text and figures from the FEMAT report and the Record of Decision and Standards and Guidelines. Hypermedia introduces two fundamental changes to knowledge management. The first is the capability to interactively store and retrieve large amounts of different types of information, such as text, graphics, voice, and video. The second fundamental change concerns new abilities to share information. Hyperdocuments, once begun, can be expanded and improved iteratively. Each iteration, possibly worked on by different people, can be more comprehensive and useful than previous ones. One of the most important features of hypermedia is its ability to greatly enhance access to information. Also, hypermedia has the advantage of low reproduction cost and rapid dissemination of updates.
