Mission-Directed.
Outstanding science and technology (S&T) make it
possible for the Laboratory to take on demanding missions
and respond to challenges to the nation. “Passion
for Mission”—a fundamental value shared by
Laboratory staff—and vitality in the scientific
and technical workforce go hand in hand.
Multidisciplinary
Research and Development. As an applied science
laboratory, Livermore uses multidisciplinary teams
to pursue projects from basic science through engineering
development of systems.
Specialized Research
Capabilities and Facilities. The Laboratory is
a national resource with many specialized research
capabilities and facilities. Livermore is home to
several signature research facilities and provides
leadership in several broad research areas that are
central to the Laboratory’s missions.

Broad
Science and Technology Base. The Laboratory
has a broad technical base consisting of more
than 3,500 scientists, engineers, and technicians
who support programs in national security, energy
and the environment, computations, chemistry
and materials science, basic physics and astrophysics,
and bioscience and biotechnology.
Research
Partnerships and Collaborations. Laboratory
researchers are active contributors to the international
S&T community. Many of Livermore’s
research and development activities are conducted
in partnerships with academic institutions, industry,
and other laboratories.
Awards
and Recognition. Scientific and technical
accomplishments by Laboratory staff are recognized
by prizes, awards, and news stories.
Long-Range
Science and Technology Investments .
The Laboratory is enhancing its capabilities
to carry
out current programs, engage in discovery-class
S&T, and pursue future missions of national
importance.
