Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen is traveling in Asia through Sept. 22. See the background briefing for an overview of his trip.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington today. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

A Department of Defense news briefing will be conducted today at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

Two naval vessels from the People's Republic of China (PRC) are scheduled to visit Everett, Wash., from Sept. 15 to 18. See the news release and the Naval Station Everett web page for details. [link no longer available]

National POW/MIA Recognition Day will be observed on Friday, Sept. 15. See the web page for details.

Cornerstone 00-2, a combined engineering exercise with Moldova, continues through Sept. 16. See the news release for details.
