CONGRESSIONAL:

FLOOR ACTION:
HOUSE The House is scheduled to meet at 10:30 a.m. for Morning Hour and then recess until 12:00 p.m. when members will consider four measures Under Suspension of the Rule. Recorded votes on suspensions, if ordered, will be taken after the completion of debate on all motions to suspend the rules.
-- H.R. 221, to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.
-- H.R. 818, to amend the Small Business Act to authorize a pilot program for the implementation of disaster mitigation measures by small businesses.
-- H.R. 609, to amend the Export Apple and Pear Act.
-- H.J. Res. 32, expressing the sense of the Congress that the President and the Congress should join in undertaking the Social Security Guarantee Initiative to strengthen and protect the retirement income security of all Americans through the creation of a fair and modern Social Security Program for the 21st century.
SENATE The Senate is scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m. and will begin one hour debate on S. 314, the Small Business Y2K bill. Following debate, the Senate will vote on passage. Immediately after the vote the Senate will go into recess so Senators may attend a confidential briefing in S. 407 regarding Y2K problems. At 2:15 p.m., the Senate will begin consideration of S.Res. 7, a resolution to amend S. Res. 208 of the 105th Congress to increase funding for the Special Committee on Y2K problems. No amendments or motions will be in order, and after 3 hours debate the Senate will vote on passage of the resolution.

The Senate Committee on Budget will conduct an OPEN hearing on the Fiscal 2000 Defense Budget. Scheduled witnesses include William Cohen, Secretary of Defense; Dr. John Hamre, Deputy Secretary of Defense; Bill Lynn, Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller); and General Hugh Shelton, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff.
