Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates will speak at Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley AFB, Va., at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Remarks only are open to the media. Journalists wishing to attend must arrive at the LaSalle entrance gate no later than 1:45 p.m. Please call the 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at (757) 764-2144 for more information on access to the event.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England hosts an honor cordon to welcome New Zealand’s Minister of Defense Phil Goff to the Pentagon today at 3:30 p.m. EDT.  The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort to the cordon.

Army Maj. Gen. Mark P. Hertling, commander of Multinational Division-North and the 1st Armored Division, will brief live from Iraq at 9 a.m. EDT, June 9, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.

Marine Maj. Gen. Douglas M. Stone, Commanding General of Task Force 134, will brief live at 1 p.m. EDT, June 9, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579, to provide an update on ongoing detention operations in Iraq. Maj. Gen. Stone recently completed a 14-month tour as the Deputy Commanding General for Detainee Operations with Multi-National Force Iraq. He will discuss his time deployed in the country. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the North Parking Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
