The Senate Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Defense will conduct an OPEN hearing on Fiscal 1999 Appropriations to Fund Operations in Kosovo. Witnesses include: Dr. John Hamre, Deputy Secretary of Defense; Brian Atwood, Administrator, Agency for International Development (AID); and Jacob Lew, Director, Office of Management and Budget. This hearing was originally scheduled for April 22, 1999.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will conduct an OPEN hearing on Non-Proliferation, Arms Control and Related Political Issues. Witnesses include Eric D. Newsom, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs; and Rose Gottemoeller, Assistant Secretary of Energy for Non-Proliferation and National Security.

The House Committee on International Relations will conduct an OPEN hearing to markup HCONRES 82, a concurrent resolution directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove U.S. Armed Forces from their positions in connection with the present operations against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. No DoD witnesses are scheduled to appear. The Markup was originally scheduled for April 22.

The Senate Committee on Armed Services will conduct an OPEN hearing to consider the nomination of Lawrence J. Delaney to be the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Research, Development and Acquisition; and Brian Sheridan to be Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations - Low Intensity Conflict. Witnesses include Delaney and Sheridan.

The Senate Committee on Armed Services, Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities will conduct an OPEN hearing on the Threat of International Narcotics Trafficking and the Role of DoD in Controlling Drugs. Witnesses include Gen. Barry R. McCaffrey (ret.), Director, Office of National Drug Control Policy; Brian E. Sheridan, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict; and Gen. Charles E. Wilhelm, Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Southern Command, USMC.
