Joint Space Management Board Established

WASHINGTON, Dec. 28, 1995 – The defense and intelligence communities have established the Joint Space Management Board. Defense Secretary William Perry and Central Intelligence Agency Director John M. Deutch signed the agreement Dec. 15.

Defense officials said the agreement satisfies defense and intelligence needs for space systems with available resources. The board provides executive management for defense and intelligence space programs, as well as oversight of the single National Security Space Architect. It will integrate policy, requirements, architectures, acquisitions and funding for defense and intelligence space programs.

The undersecretary of defense for acquisition and technology and the deputy director of central intelligence will cochair the board. The board's executive committee will include the cochairs, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the executive director, intelligence community affairs.
