Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
The following materials may be of use to public health lawyers working on
SARS. Lawyers should also consult the CDC main SARS web site at

- The SARS Commission Report, Volumes 1-5, The Honourable Mr. Justice
Archie Campbell, December 2006. This report chronicles the investigation
of how SARS came to Ontario, how the virus spread, and how it was dealt
with.

for SARS Planning, developed by the Association of State and Territorial
Health Officials and the National Association of County & City Health
Official in collaboration with CDC. The checklist provides information
applicable to SARS and other public health emergencies and is intended
for use by health officials at all levels.

- "Quarantine
and Isolation: Lessons Learned from SARS"
On December 1, 2003, the Institute for Bioethics, Health Policy and
Law at the University of Louisville released a report titled, "Quarantine
and Isolation: Lessons Learned from SARS." The lead author was
Prof. Mark A. Rothstein, director of the Institute. The
report reviews lessons learned from the use of quarantine and isolation
in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam during the
recent SARS outbreak. The report was funded through a cooperative
agreement with CDC; however, it is the independent work of the authors
and does not necessarily reflect the views of CDC or the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services.
