NEDSS Base System (NBS) Tuberculosis Program Area Module
The National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) Base
System (NBS), Tuberculosis Program Area Module (TB PAM) is currently
under development with the revised Report of Verified Case of
Tuberculosis (RVCT). Beta testing is scheduled to begin in June
2008. The NBS TB PAM will be implemented with the revised RVCT in
the fall 2008.
The NBS TB PAM will include the revised RVCT with features for
validating surveillance data, basic reports, and electronic lab
reporting. A patient management module will not be included.

Electronic Report of Verified Case of Tuberculosis (eRVCT)
CDC is currently developing the electronic Report of Verified
Case of Tuberculosis (eRVCT). This system will include the revised
RVCT (2009) and HL7 messaging. The eRVCT is scheduled to be released
in January 2009. Additional features such as reports will be
available in the summer of 2009.

Commercial off-the-Shelf Systems (COTS)
Commercial off-the-shelf systems (COTS) are available for
reporting TB surveillance data to CDC. Presently, four companies
have systems in production or development.

State-built Surveillance Systems
As of April 2008, five states have developed an in-house TB
surveillance system — Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, and
Pennsylvania. Other states are in the process of developing
surveillance systems. The majority of State-based systems include
other reportable diseases, in addition to TB.
