WASHINGTON, Oct. 25, 2004 – Task Force Baghdad troops conducting a cordon and search operation in central Baghdad today uncovered a large weapons cache, according to Multinational Force Iraq officials.
Soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division's 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, confiscated more than 70 rifles, 20 pistols, 10 rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 70 hand grenades, 10 anti-personnel mines and thousands of dollars in currency during a search of a suspected insurgent's residence. One suspect was detained during the operation. On Oct. 24, the Iraqi National Guard and multinational forces from 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), detained two people wanted for anti-Iraqi activities and collected a variety of weapons and munitions during a cordon and search in northern Iraq, officials said. During the operation in the Mosul neighborhood of Tal Al Ruman, soldiers detained two people, including a terrorist cell leader with known terrorist links. No injuries were reported during the operation, and the suspects were in custody. Also, two Iraqi civilians came to soldiers of 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, in Mosul and turned in a cache of weapons that consisted of two 60 mm artillery rounds and three 120 mm tank rounds.
