If you are interested in taking any RTMs or need RTMs as course pre-requisites, please follow the procedures listed below. Note, however, only employees of the National Weather Service can enroll in the RTM Program.
Identify the RTM(s) that you wish to work on.
Your Training Coordinator should contact the NWSTC Program Assistant responsible for the RTM Program (currently, Marylin Reed at (816) 994-3007, request the desired RTM(s), and provide the following information:
For most offices, the Training Coordinator is the Science and Operations Office (SOO) or Development and Operations Hydrologist (DOH). In some cases, however, he/she may be the Meteorologist in Charge (MIC), Data Acquisition Program Manager (DAPM), or Hydrologist in Charge (HIC).
A student's social security number is needed because completion of RTMs is entered into the National Training Database (NTDB). The NTDB uses social security numbers as the main identifying parameter for individuals.
The NWSTC Program Assistant sends all training material to the Training Coordinator. The Training Coordinator is responsible for:
After you finish studying the module material, contact your Training Coordinator and take the module test. Your Training Coordinator will correct the test ansysinform you of your score. If you fail the test, your Training Coordinator will obtain a second test from the NWSTC and you will be given a second chance to pass.
After the testing is completed, your Training Coordinator returns the testing material and completion certification to the NWSTC so that we can record it in the NTDB. You may keep the module study material.
That's it, your done. Or, you can start over with another module. Good luck!

The NWSTC LIBRARY offers a variety of remote training programs for self-development. There are many titles/topics including UNIX, PCs, management, communications (and other human skills), etc... . The format (Video, Text, CBT., etc...) of the courses also varies. The Library is intended as a resource for all NWS employees when formal training in a topics is unavailable or impractical. Courses are "checked-out" of the library (via Request Form) for a given time frame and then returned. The courses vary in length, however the student and supervisor should be aware that courses are on loan for specific short durations and are not to be kept indefinitely. Time should be set aside to complete the course within the specified time frame; if the student is unable to complete the course timely, an extension can be requested from the Lending Library Coordinator (816-880-9594 ext 222). If the course is unavailable the student may be put on a waiting list if he/she so desire.
