Detailed Forecast Discussion |
A large and strong ridge of high pressure will build off shore on Monday inhibiting penetration of pacific fronts into Washington State and stabilizing the lower atmosphere. During Tuesday, a persistent surface inversion will become entrenched over most of western Washington and remain in place into next weekend. This inversion will trap pollution and air quality is expect to dramatically decline beginning Tuesday night. There is a significant potential for air quality levels to exceed the federal 24 hour PM 2.5 standard as early as Wednesday in Snohomish and Pierce counties. This is expected to prompt the issuance of stage 1 bans late on Tuesday. Stage 2 bans are expected on Wednesday for Snohomish, Pierce and King counties. Kitsap county will likely be included by Thursday but could be included on Wednesday depending on monitored pollutions levels. Current meteorological model guidance shows no relief to the stagnant pattern before next weekend. |
