Legislation Introduced for Mandatory Continuing Education

Earlier this year, Bills S-2068 and A-3099 were introduced in the New Jersey Legislature. These bills would amend the Real Estate License Law to require real estate licensees to complete Commission-approved continuing education courses as a condition to the biennial renewal of their real estate licenses.  The bills as introduced are “place-holder” legislation, and are expected to be amended during the current legislative session to include detailed requirements for the program.  The continuing education requirement will not be in effect for the 2009 license renewals.  If the legislation is enacted, it is anticipated that the requirement will not go into effect until the 2013 renewal, as the continuing education courses will not be available until after the start of the 2011-2013 license term due to the need for the Commission to promulgate administrative rules implementing the revised law, including standards for provider and course approval.

Additional information will be posted here as it becomes available.  You can access the Legislature’s website at www.njleg.state.nj.us for a copy of the bills.
